About: Denali Flavors, maker of 30-plus dairy food flavors (especially famous for its Moose Tracks ice cream), started this corporate blog in April 2005.
Content: You can expect a post every two or three days, which is probably fine for a food company. The posts cover a surprising variety of topics, including blogging itself - great news for a business blogger looking for firsthand advice.
Blog Design: While not truly innovative, the design is clearly professional. Permalinks, comments, trackbacks - you can do it all here. Photos spice up many of the posts. Content goes down the middle, while tools are placed at the sides in a well-organized manner. This is one of the better-designed corporate blogs I've seen.
Other: The "about" pages offer very little personal information, which is disappointing. On the other hand, at least we get a sense of how many people are involved. Given the people-pleasing nature of their ice cream, I would expect more personal touches such as brief biographies of the Denali blog authors, bylines on each post, and other listed ways to contact Denali besides email (Skype, instant messenger programs, fax, phone, mail, etc.).
Overall: I like this blog. My guess is that Denali is liking it, too - they probably spend far less on this blog than they would on traditional MSM (mainstream media) advertising, yet they are probably getting cost-effective publicity out of it. Yes, the site traffic counter says that only 2,277 visitors have stopped by since April 22, 2005 - but I see that changing as blogs like mine pick up on the Denali blog and refer more people to their site. If only we knew what kinds of SEO (search engine optimization) and Web marketing tactics Denali is using ...
