Why Doesn't Animation Mentor Have A Blog?
I often come across otherwise good websites and am saddened by their lack of two-way communicative options.  I've blogged before about why Honda should blog about ASIMO, its amazing robot.

Animation Mentor ought to have a blog too, IMHO.  Yahoo! News gives a good, brief report (via Laurie Sullivan at TechWeb) about this new Web-only animation school, saying that "AnimationMentor.com has invested nearly $1 million to build a social network where students from 37 countries can study character animation with 54 working artists from Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Feature Animation, Sony, Blue Sky Studios and others."

So I checked out the site and found it very artsy (appropriate for the subject matter), but slow to load (due to all the artsy stuff and my slow DSL).  But a promising site for a promising business with an ingenious model, I think.

My complaint/wish is simply that, while we, the Web-using public, can get easy access to Animation Mentor press releases and official-sounding stuff (sorry, the Flash aspect of the site prevents me from giving you the link to its "Press Room"), I want to see a raw, here's what's really happening, how-you-doin', feel-free-to-post-a-comment blog.  That might get people more excited about it.

So if Animation Mentor would just whip up a simple blog and stick it on their site with a "Blog" link prominently displayed where I could easily find it, I'd appreciate it.  The posts wouldn't even have to be that great - just good enough to hold my interest.  And I think there are a great many people who would love to know more about how to create the likes of Nemo and the Incredible family.

Thanks for listening, Animation Maven.  Oh, and include a feed with that, please!  (Read more about what RSS is.)

Why else would (or wouldn't) a blog help Animation Mentor?  How could it be cost-effective (or not)?  Am I just being naive?  What do you think?

Jan. 19, 2005 - Update: Okay, so there are student blogs for Animation Mentor, but it's tricky and clunky to get to them (I clicked around until I found a link to them under the "Our Students" heading, and the blogs are called a "webring" and hosted at an external site).  And there isn't an official, unified school blog.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  How should that all be cleaned up?  I'd start by hosting the blogs at the site.
