
The article piqued my curiosity: What "Web 2.0" companies are most worth keeping an eye on at this moment? And how can we tell which Internet businesses have more potential than others?
I think the most important factor to look for is the ability to respond to market change. The Web and the technology surrounding it are evolving and constantly, and Web startups need more than just interesting ideas. They need to adapt lightning-fast to the competition.
Another important part of a good business strategy for a new Web company is effective communication. I'd suggest including a frequently updated blog and responding quickly to feedback from interested parties such as customers and potential investors.
A few Web services I see as possessing the indispensable quality of changeability are (off the top of my head) Writely, Pandora, Bloglines, Flickr, Gmail and Digg. (See a ginormous list of Web 2.0 products and services.) I just can't stop using services like these, and I love discovering new features they add every week.
