Two fine bloggers recently expressed their thoughts on keeping their feedreaders as sparsely populated as possible.
Mike Rundle currently subscribes to 42 feeds in a list that he describes as "a feeding frenzy of blogs all vying for my attention." Good job keeping your attention focused, Mike.
Mike's not the only pro blogger trying to slim down on feed grazing. Jeremy Wright is now subscribing to about 75 feeds. That's down from 800 a few months ago. Go Jeremy!
I've struggled with information overload before, especially with email and feedreading, so I've learned from experience that too much media consumption can be unhealthy for you. Focus and priorities, coupled with regular planning, will yield far better results than all-out info gluttony.
For most business bloggers, I think between 100 and 300 feeds is plenty enough to keep you well-fed on pertinent information in order to do your job effectively. (I've got 335 at the moment, and I'm feeling very full.) And always try to slim that number down. One way to do that is to subscribe to more keywords search feeds and fewer straight-on blog feeds. I'm sure you can think of others.
How many feeds do you subscribe to? How many do you think is a wise number and why?

Easton,
I currently subscribe to 75 feeds and even then I still have a hard time keeping up, but I don't stress over it anymore like I used to. Before, I was doing more reading than writing. Now I only check my feeds every other day -some haven't been checked in weeks...but they can wait!
