Fantastic SEO: One More Benefit of Business Blogging
If you have a business and don't believe a blog can help you, listen to me for a minute.

I know I'm just a kid, but listen to me.

SEO = search engine optimization.
Search engines love blogs.
Blogs = great SEO.

I posted a review of Dell's one2one blog four days ago.  Right now, if you go to Google.com and search for "dell one2one blog" without the quotation marks, the first search result will be a page at the actual one2one blog.

The second result will be my review.  That's awesome SEO.

I spent nothing.  All I did was write and hit publish.  Of course I'm helped by my blog's history (nine months of consistent posting) and constant interlinking between my blog and more than 200 other blogs (several dozen of which reside in the Know More Media network alongside me), but a huge reason for my words appearing so high in those search results is because I published them via a blog.

Now forget me.  Think about your business.  How much would you willing to spend to get such great search engine placement - to get such great SEO?  Do you believe in the power of blogs to boost the visibility of your business?

Moral: If the first thing you think of when you hear the word "blog" is "online personal journal," you don't get it.

Maybe I should write a book.  Don't You Get It?  How A Blog Could Help Your Business.  And maybe it would simply consist of a list of about 10,000 ways that a corporate blog could help your business.

Then again, why don't I just post the same info, piece by piece, to my blog about business blogging?

I think I've made my point.

What do you think?  Has Easton eaten one too many PEZ candies?  Or am I right on this one?

P.S. This one's for you, Ted!

First - hate to break it to you Easton - but you're not a kid anymore - welcome to the big table!!!

Second - you can never eat too much pez.

Third - I completely agree with you on all other points. And finally,

Fourth - I just realized that Ted's book has been on my "to read" (bought and collecting dust!) pile for 6 months. Now I'll have to read it!!!

Thanks Easton!

Thanks for the kind words, Ann :). I also need to give Ted's book a more in-depth read. It's highly useful for businesses who want to leverage the power of blogging.

I recommend a switch to Good and Plenties Easton, but nevertheless you hit the nail on the head. I also noticed your post on the Dell blog was featured prominently on Technorati's home page a couple of days ago. Talk about setting an example! All the best.

Thanks, Starbucker. Another mini-lesson for businesses considering blogs is evident from reading these comments: By inviting conversation, you make it easy to connect with people - but you also can enhance your site's SEO. All the legitimate links going back and forth, the increased likelihood that someone will publish something that links back to you, the increased amount of content that's indexable and searchable, etc.

Never liked Good and Plenties. What else ya got? :)

How about Milk Duds - those are mighty tasty too! I get quite a kick out of seeing my blog show up pretty high on a search - for me, it's the "glass half full" entry where I get the most. I can surely see the benefit for a business.

Milk Duds! Now you're talkin'. Yep, it's exciting to see what blogs can do for an individual or a business.

Eating lots of candy (I suggest Milk Duds and Snickers) along with coffee is a great way to read my book :)

The SEO benefits are amazing, and sometimes amusing. I was the #1 Google hit for "Dull Person" and "Naked Goats" for a long time, as well as other more appropriate terms :)

Isn't that odd, Ted? I know of several examples of bloggers getting lots of traffic simply because they accidentally misspell a word in their post title, or even in the body of their post. There's the human aspect of SEO for ya!

Mmm, Snickers. Boy, all this candy talk almost makes me want to do a post about bloggers' favorite candies, just for the fun of it!
