How Does Your Attitude Affect Your Business Blogging?
Over at Talking Story I've been honored to publish a guest post about learning titled "10 Things I Must Have On My Learning Epitaph."  The principles and ideas I discuss in that post might help you refresh your attitude toward your business blogging.  Thanks to Rosa Say for letting me have the floor there.

So here's a question for you:
How does your attitude affect your business blogging?

Who was it that said attitude is everything?  I think the way you view blogging can have a tremendous influence on how your business blog turns out.

Your attitude towards business blogging can change the following:
- Your perception of the importance of your blog readers
- The tone you use in your blog posts
- How others respond to what you write on your business blog
- What you choose to say or not say about your business on the blog
- The type and amount of traffic you receive to your blog
- The level of dedication you apply to your blogging
- How you think and feel about your blog

I'm sure there's lots more.  I just wanted to lift this stone up a little so we could peer underneath.

Hi Easton.

I think attitude is the most critical aspect of successful and unsuccessful blogging. And here I talk about blogging because we're talking about blogging, otherwise, attitude is manifest in whatever we do in our lives.

A "positive attitude" has different connotations for different people, but when applied to blogging, positive attitude means a desire to communicate and share your experiences with others. It also means perseverance and sincerity of purpose because without these two things people often get discouraged and disillusioned very fast.

Agreed. Case in point - how many blogs that exist today have been consistently publishing for at least one year? So many die on the vine.

For me the some of the most interesting blog posts are written by people who are curious (about business, life in-general), want to explore concepts and welcome the opportunity, that open comments provide, to exchange and expand ideas. I guess one might say people who are not afraid to step out on the edge. Sort of like you - wink!

Totally agree - if I've had a bad day, watch out. I think that the time of the day and how much time you have to write your post also affects how you blog.

Thanks, Toby and Chad, for stopping by and empathizing. One of the best things a business blogger can do is spend a few minutes each morning planning the day's activities. How much time will I allot to feed reading? To posting? To networking with others? Etc.

I am enjoying getting to know your blog!

As a columnist, business writer and relatively new blogger, I believe that attitude is everything. I have to decide how I feel about my readers and why I'm writing.

Am I trying to "lure" them into hiring me, do I want to share a little of what I know and hope it helps them be more successful, do I resent that I have a deadline and have to drag myself to the computer to meet it?

Any or all of those attitudes are out here in the blogosphere. And boy can you spot them! Anyone who thinks they can hide their agenda or attitude is underestimating the community.

The best bloggers, in my opinion, are the ones who have an open arms attitude. They invite us in, they want to share and they're not keeping track of who's winning, in terms of referrals or links or whatever the measurement of the day is.

I don't want to get all warm and fuzzy on you because after all we're talking about business blogs! But the truth of the matter is -- it's about building relationships. So warm and fuzzy as it may be, it's also good business.
