Extending a meme from Web Worker Daily and originator Leo at Zen Habits, Steve Rubel (a senior VP at the Edelman PR firm) shares how he reads Web feeds and asks, "How about you?"
Me first.
- "Ego" folder for searches on my name, company name, blogs' names, etc.
- "Corporate Blogs" folder for official company blogs.
- "Business Blogging" folder for blogs about professional blogging.
- "Know More Media" folder for - exactly.
I've also got a coComment conversation feed in there to notify me of conversation updates at blogs I'm watching or have commented at. (Stalk me now!)
I've just switched from NewsGator Online (pretty, but slower) to Google Reader (barebones, but much faster). Tris Hussey twittered me this morning (is that be a verb now?) to explain some keyboard shortcuts that speed it up even more - j=next article, k=previous in expanded view; in list view, n=next, p=previous. Speed's critical with a couple hundred feeds to scan!
Every morning (and once or twice more during the day) I zip through all unread feed items, starring some for later follow-up, opening some in new tabs for commenting or closer inspection, and marking a bunch as read (actually, Google does that for me as I scroll down). I tend to skim and headlines are the biggest reason I read or don't read an item. That and photos.
More feed reading tips in my Monitoring the Blogosphere series (yes, needs updated bad!).
What about you? How do you read feeds?
Bonus question: WHY do you read feeds?

I also use Google Reader. I round up 140 blogs for my local paper. I like the ability to mark posts unread as I weed through fluff looking for gems.
