I agree that a pillar post can take a lot of time and research to create. The hard work almost always pays off.
I'm also one who has tons of ideas for posts in my head that I haven't written. (I just started a spreadsheet of them.) Sometimes it takes over a month for me to get those ideas published.

I often use two or even three weeks writing a post (pillar post). My blog is "fact-oriented", so that's maybe why it takes so long. When I write a post, much time is devoted to research.
