Blog Review Question #4: How many email subscribers does the blog have?
Why Email Subscribers Matter
For the same reasons that feed subscribers matter (Question #3).
Email subscribers, on the whole, are less geeky than feed subscribers. But they're still likely to have blogs of their own and places online where they are likely to talk about your blog (like forums or chat rooms).
And the email inbox is an inner sanctum of sorts - perhaps the most personal place your content could meet a subscriber's eyes.
Anything you can do to get someone to subscribe by feed or email (or both, if they like!) is good, excluding sneakiness or extreme self-promotion.
The more email subscribers, the better.
It's okay to have more email subscribers than feed subscribers or vice versa - but pay attention to that ratio, as it may tell you a lot about your blog's audience.
How to Get More Email Subscribers
You get more email subscribers the same way you get more feed suscribers.
Always promote both options at the same time. Whenever you ask for feed subscriptions, ask for email subscriptions too. Place the feed icon and the email subscription icon/box close to each other on your blog.
Good: "Please grab my feed."
Better: "Subscribe for free to my feed for instant updates."
Best: "Subscribe for free by email or feed for instant updates."

This is an interesting topic. I once attempted to contact my e-mail subscribers to get feedback. I had expected a few of them to respond, but I actually got nothing back.
Could it be that e-mail subscribers want to read the blog, but not necessarily participate? Or, maybe my message was stopped by spam filters.
