We will now discuss Question #12 of 200 blog review questions to help you improve your blog and review blogs. The Ultimate Blog Review Guide e-book covers all 200 questions in detail.

Blog Review Question #12: How long does it take to load a page on the blog? (check at Web Page Analyzer)

This metric is more important than many bloggers realize. How long does it take for Web users to get annoyed while waiting for a page to load? Just a few seconds. In fact, if your blog pages take more than 5 or 10 pages to fully load, you are probably losing a significant amount of potential traffic. Not only are people not visiting as many pages on your blog as they might otherwise, but they are less likely to ever return if your blog takes too long to load for their tastes.

The faster, the better. Cut out anything from your code that slows things down significantly unless you need it to survive. Seek a fast Web host.

A somewhat related issue to this is that you also need to consider your core audience. How fast are their Internet connections? How much do they care about the speed of your page loads?

I will try to get some more concrete figures in here on Web users' expectations and "annoyance thresholds" as far as page loading times. If you know of any good links, let me know.

Also – I'm quite sure that search engine spiders pay attention to how quickly (or slowly) Web pages load and that you are likely to gain or lose search engine ranking (a little, at least) based on the speed at which users (and spiders) can access your blog. I need to find some proof of that, though.
