Without further ado, here are my business blogging tips for this week:
1. Know your limits. Think about how much time and money you can afford to invest in your business blog. If you’re going to hire someone to maintain your blog, make sure you will be able to pay him fairly.
2. Controversy is good – sometimes. Publishing strong opinions about religion, politics, war and other touchy subjects may get you more readers, but it’s also likely to get you into hot water. I’ve mentioned the subject of controversy before, and I sometimes give my personal opinion on controversial issues, but I make sure to tread carefully when I do.
3. Scratch people’s backs. When someone mentions your business on the Web, try this: blog about them and then tell them so. You’d be surprised how easily you’ll make friends and gain readers! Send an email, make a phone call, etc. Blogs don’t make friends; people do! Your corporate or professional blog will succeed only as you reach out to human beings. (What, search engines aren’t human beings?)
As always, I welcome your feedback.
