Fortune 500 Corporate Blog Review Series: General Motors

September 11th, 2006 by Easton

General Motors (NYSE: GM) is the third-largest Fortune 500 company.  Here’s a sneak peak of my in-depth review planned for tomorrow:

GM has a portal for its two corporate blogs at GMBlogs.com.  (I haven’t done any deep searching for other GM corporate blogs yet.)

The Fastlane Blog dates back to January 2005 - so it’s older than most blogs (according to Technorati).  Various GM employees author the posts - most notably vice chairman Bob Lutz.  It’s one of the best-known company blogs, with a reputation for consistency and openness.

The FYI Blog is perhaps less well-known than Fastlane, but looks quite similar at first glance.  Its posts date back to April 2006.  I quote from the first FYI post:

The FYI Blog will highlight the positive developments that occur at GM on a daily basis, though we won’t shy away from controversy. Things that most of us would otherwise never hear about. Whereas the FastLane Blog usually gets new entries once or twice a week, the FYI blog aspires to be much more active. Expect to see at least a daily post, written by people throughout the organization.

I’ll evaluate both GM blogs, as well as any others I can find, tomorrow.  Please join me!
