Here are my two cents on the future of business blogging: The idea of regularly offering relevant, original, vibrant content to willing readers / listeners / viewers will always appeal to most businesses.
Increasingly, media articles discuss the astounding growth of the blogosphere (for example, Technorati CEO Dave Sifry on Oct. 17, 2005). There are tens of millions of blogs out there, hundreds of thousands of which are either run by businesses or by individuals for monetary purposes.
Although blogging has created many new opportunities for businesses (especially small businesses) to spread the word about their progress, blogs may soon become ubiquitous to the point of information (and advertising) overload. Some say that even the word "blog" might sound passé in a few years, much like "Web surfing" or "Internet browser."
Blogging will continue to be important for at least several years, but I think it might take on more varied meanings over time as technology allows for instantaneous wireless feeding of content.
Where is business blogging headed? How important will it be to a business to have a corporate blog next year, or in five years? What other marketing methods might supplant blogging? Tell me what you think.
